Ha Jong-hoon is an illustrator and art toy designer at Hands In Factory. Fascinated by the works of Michael Lau, he developed a passion for art toys and created his unique style through extensive research and experimentation. The artist’s work mainly reflects the daily lives and concerns of people within modern society. Moreover, he expresses his cultural interests through art toys and also manifests his desire for unattainable objects.

Ha Jong-hoon’s signature collection, 'HAZARD', draws inspiration from lizards and creatively portrays their regenerative ability as a metaphor for the resilience of people in modern society. He explores different species of lizards and their unique characteristics and reinterprets them into his own characters, connecting them with human emotions.

In his upcoming solo exhibition Terraspace, the artist introduces terrariums as a new addition to his collection. Through this new endeavor, the artist aims to express the idea of coexistence between lizards and humans. Unlike static dioramas, his terrariums depict the characters’ lively habitats, bringing his characters to life. With his terrariums, the artist offers the audience the opportunity to empathize and connect deeply with each character further.

Since joining Hands In Factory in 2017, Ha Jong-hoon has been actively participating in fairs and exhibitions, including the Taipei Toy Festival (TTF), Art Toy Culture (ATC), and Beijing Toy Festival (BTS). The artist is continuously expanding his artistic realm by experimenting with different styles and mediums.

일러스트레이터이자 아트토이 작가로서 Hands In Factory에서 활동하는 하종훈은 현대인들의 일상과 고민을 반영한다. 마이클 라우의 작품에 매료되어 아트토이의 세계에 발을 들인 그는, 이 분야에 대한 깊은 연구와 열정을 바탕으로 자신만의 독특한 스타일을 개발하였다. 작가는 아트토이를 통해 자신이 좋아하는 문화, 패션, 혹은 아이템들을 표현하고자 하며 갖고 싶어도 가질 수 없는 것들에 대한 욕망을 표출하기도 한다.

하종훈 작가의 대표작 '하자드 (HAZARD)’는 도마뱀을 모티브로 하여 창작되었으며, 꼬리가 잘리고 다시 자라나는 그들의 회복력을 현대인의 끈기와 회복력에 비유하여 표현하였다. 작가는 다양한 종류의 도마뱀과 그들만의 특징을 탐구하며 이를 현대인의 감정과 연결해 작가만의 캐릭터로 재구성한다.

나아가 작가는 이번 개인전 “Terraspace”에서 테라리움을 선보인다. 이는 도마뱀이 인간과 함께 살아가는 듯한 느낌을 표현하기 위한 작가의 새로운 시도로, 디오라마를 활용하여 캐릭터에 생명력을 부여함으로써 관객들이 캐릭터와 더욱 공감하고 이입할 수 있게 만든다. 이번 테라리움은 일반적인 정지된 화면을 담은 디오라마와 다르게, 삶의 터전을 형상화하며 캐릭터들과 함께 살아가는 느낌을 강조한다. 작가는 이를 통해 관객들에게 개방적인 사고와 다양한 해석의 가능성을 제공하고자 한다.

 

작가는 2017년 Hands In Factory에 합류한 이후 개인전과 더불어 Taipei Toy Festival(TTF), Art Toy Culture(ATC), Beijing Toy Festival(BTS) 등 다양한 페어와 전시에 활발히 참여하며 자신의 예술 세계를 확장해 나가고 있다.
