우리를 바라보는 그림속 인물들은 누구이며, 그들은 어떤 감정과 생각을 안고 있는 것일까? 최지은 작가의 "Look at ME!" 전시는 이러한 인물들의 시선과 긴장감에 주목하여 그들 각자의 이야기와 내면의 심리적 세계를 탐구한다.

 

작가의 작품은 생성과 소멸이라는 순환에 의해 탄생한다. 추상성과 구상성 사이를 오가는 창작의 과정 속에서 예기치 못한 형태과 상황이 발현되고, 찰나의 순간들이 모여 이야기가 생성된다. 이러한 순간들의 기다림과 끊임없는 추적이 인물들의 긴장감과 신비로움을 증폭시킨다. 작품 속 인물들은 간혹 그들의 상황을 전달하기도, 혹은 침묵을 지키기도 한다. 이것은 작가가 그림의 언어로 표현하는 미묘한 성질이며 미스테리하고 감각적인 작가만의 독보적인 표현법이다.

The figures in the paintings that gaze upon us— who are they, and what emotions and thoughts do they carry? "Look at ME!" by Jieun Choi focuses on the gaze and tension of these characters, exploring their individual stories and inner psychological worlds.

 

The artist's work unfolds within the rhythmic cycle of creation and dissolution. In the process of creation that oscillates between abstraction and concreteness, unforeseen forms and situations emerge, and fleeting moments come together to create unique narratives. The eager anticipation of these fleeting instances, coupled with the relentless pursuit of artistic exploration, intensifies the tension and enigma surrounding the characters. At times, the figures eloquently communicate their circumstances, while on other occasions, they choose silence. This duality encapsulates the nuanced essence that the artist articulates through the language of painting — a captivating and sensory expression shrouded in mystery.

 

Choi emphasizes the importance of intuition and empathy for the viewers facing her works. Interacting with the gestures and gazes of the characters in the artwork, narrowing the boundaries between the unconscious and conscious, she hopes that within each viewer's unique perspectives, a new narrative structure will form.
