Majoring in Western painting at Chosun University, artist Ha Seung Wan shares stories of humans andthe world within his work. His narratives include stories from ancient myth and bible to the contemporarymass media. Through science and history-related research, the artist builds his layers of narrative withcomposition and symbolic elements from myths and religions. Through his painting, he ultimatelyconverse on human essence by removing and reconstructing objects of real events based on past stories,images, fantasy, and the real world. Ha Seung Wan focuses on the underlying elements of the narrative,and what painting medium can deliver to the audiences.In his work, a pictorial image is as important as a narrative composition. In between the boundary ofabstract and figurative, the world that he creates is filled with energy through dynamic movement,rhythmical screen arrangement, and intense color palette. While continuing his exploration of humans andart through the traditional painting medium, the artist is also expanding his world by trying new mediums.In the past he has worked as a residency artist at the Gwangju Museum of Art and the Interpersonal ArtsCenter.

 조선대 회화과에서 서양화를 전공한 하승완 작가는 인간과 세계를 기반으로 작성된 다양한 ‘이야기’를
다룬다.그것은 예로부터 전해 내려오는 신화나 성경에 나오는 이야기를 비롯하여 동시대 매스미디어에서 다루고 있는 각종 이야기들을 포함한다. 과학과 역사 관련 리서치를 통해 신화와 종교에서 나타나는 서사적 구성과 상징적 요소를 조합하고 변형하여 인간의 본질에 대해 회화로 표현한다. 과거의 이야기, 이미지, 판타지, 현실 세계를 기반으로 실제 사건의 대상을 제거하거나 재구성한다. 사건의 내러티브 기저에 깔린 본질을 강조하여 회화만이 할 수 있는 것들을 전달하는 것으로 관객과 이야기하고자 한다.

작가의 작업에서는 서사적 구성 못지않게 회화적 이미지가 중요하다. 작품들은 추상과 구상의 경계 속에서 에너지가 넘치는 작품 세계를 보여주고 있다. 강렬한 동적 움직임과 역동적인 화면 배치, 강렬한 색채가 특징이다. 작가만의 참신한 시각으로 인간과 예술에 관한 탐구를 이어오면서 회화의 기본에 충실하되 다양한 매체를 시도하고 있으며, 광주시립미술관 청년예술인지원센터와 대인예술곳간 묘수 입주작가로 활동하는 등 활동 범위를 넓혀가고 있다.
